Quiz Bowl - Des Moines' Original Team Trivia Event for Charity
Quiz Bowl Rules:
1. All cell phones must be turned OFF!
2. Each team gets pencils, pens, scrap paper and the answer sheets. Each team will need to choose one person to write down your team's answers.
3. The trivia includes 9 rounds. Each round has 9 questions. During each round, a question from each of the 9 different categories will be read. Categories are listed on the backside of this page.
4. After each question is read, the team will have 30 seconds before the Quiz Master moves on to the next question. Each question will be read twice. After each round, your table hostess/host will pick up each team's answer sheet.
5. If a judge cannot read your answer, he or she will count it wrong. Spelling will not be counted against you as long as the judge understands what you are trying to write.
6. Partial points will be given partial answers. If the question asks for a person's names, you need to give ONLY first and last name to get full points. No points will be given for Jr., Sr., middle initial, etc. Nicknames, such as John for Jonathan, will be accepted.
7. Challenges to answers will not be addressed. Judges spent a lot of time validating the questions and every effort has been made to make the questions 100% accurate. Points will be based on the answer that is displayed on the screen after the round. After the game is over, paper validation for the answers will be available for participants to view.
8. Team points will be displayed after they have been compiled for each round. The current winning team will have a special centerpiece placed on their table!
9. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. There will be a tie breaker question that will be read at the beginning of play and will be used if there is a tie. "Oopsies" cannot be used on the tie-breaker question. Prizes will be given for the top three teams.
10. There will be a break between Rounds 5 and 6. Dessert will be served at this time.
11. An 'oopsie' can be used as an answer or partial answer and gives you five 'free' points for each sticker used. 'Oopsies' are in the form of a round sticker and can be purchased in a set of five for ten dollars. Limit one set per team.
12. Opportunities to win door prizes will be available by purchasing playing cards. Cost is one card for $5 or 5 cards for $20. Prizes will be drawn for between rounds.
